A vineyard combining newly established plantings with significant open land for future development. With all new plantings, this vineyard brings forward its namesake “Legacy” with the newly envisioned future of grape offerings through the Salinas Land Company portfolio. This vineyard offers consistency in topography without it being entirely bland and homogeneous. The vineyard’s thoughtful design gives winery programs grapes they can count on for years to come.

What Makes This Vineyard Distinct
Opportunity! While newly planted, the vines are established and performing. Distinction leans to re-imagining what Central Ave can and should be for winegrape production. Out with the old and in with the new and more reliable. Rancho Legado boasts Lockwood channery loam soils
which are well drained fertile soils with great water holding capacity.
These versatile soils pair perfectly with wine grapes seasonal demands, allowing application appropriate levels of stress during the desired phenolic stages of fruit ripening. Water resources at Rancho Legado are supported by the natural recharge of the Salinas River system, where seasonal flows help replenish groundwater supplies and contribute to consistent, high quality irrigation water.
This relationship between river and vineyard reinforces SLC’s long term approach to managing land and water responsibly.

Owned by Smith-Monterey and managed by Salinas Land Company. The vineyard operations
are managed through a long-standing partnership and collaboration with Monterey Pacific, Inc., one
of the region’s most respected premium winegrape farming organizations. At Los Ositos, fruit quality, uniformity, and timing are core focuses of the annual farming plan.
