Rick’s Vineyard

Overview

Rick’s Vineyard represents one of the most forward-looking sites in the Salinas Land Company portfolio. It was among the early properties to lead the modernization of trellising and mechanical systems beginning in 2012, helping shape the contemporary visual and functional identity of Central Avenue vineyards. Designed for both flexibility and scale, Rick’s features a wide range of grape varieties cultivated across traditional VSP systems and some of the pioneering high-wire mechanical systems in the Central Coast. This combination reflects a modern farming approach while maintaining consistency and reliability for winery partners.

Key Vineyard Highlights:

  • VSP and high-wire trellising
  • Consistent, reliable site
  • Large-scale quality production

What Makes This Vineyard Distinct

Rick’s offers an uncommon varietal mix within the region, making it a versatile option for wineries seeking both stylistic range and dependable value. The vineyard is widely regarded as a preferred source for Gewürztraminer within the Salinas Land Company portfolio. Rick’s boasts Lockwood channery loam soils, which are well-drained, fertile soils with strong water-holding capacity. These versatile soils pair well with winegrapes’ seasonal demands, allowing for the application of appropriate levels of stress during key phenolic stages of fruit ripening.

Water resources at Rick’s are supported by the natural recharge of the Salinas River system, where seasonal flows help replenish groundwater supplies and contribute to consistent, high-quality irrigation water. This relationship between river and vineyard reinforces Salinas Land Company’s long-term approach to managing land and water responsibly.
